product overview

DARWin, the most comprehensive and powerful pavement design program available, is more than just a computerized version of the 1993 AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures. DARWin is a complete pavement design and analysis program for both initial design and rehabilitation. Some DARWin features include:

  • Life cycle cost analysis for each design alternative.
  • Design of all pavement features, including shoulders, transverse and longitudinal joints, and steel reinforcement.
  • Sensitivity plots of key design inputs.
  • Ability to work in both metric and English units.

Since its initial release in 1991, DARWin has undergone three major upgrades. The latest version, DARWin 3.1, is designed for the Windows 95, 98, 2000 and NT operating systems. Some features include:

  • On-the-fly unit conversion.
  • Enhanced project file management.
  • Combined material and pay-item libraries.
  • Enhanced pavement deflection data processing and analysis.
  • Enhanced graphical outputs, including pavement cross section, project cash flow diagrams, and pavement deflection profiles.

DARWin Modules
DARWin 3.1 is divided into four modules, each of which addresses a specific item in the overall pavement design process. Collectively, these modules can be used to design and compare alternative pavement designs:

  • Flexible Structural Design
  • Rigid Structural Design
  • Overlay Design
  • Life Cycle Cost
