MAINTENANCE RELEASES for DARWin 3.01

Changes Incorporated in Version 3.01.003

  • In the AC Overlay of AC Pavements using the component analysis method, the milling thickness for the English calculation exported the unmilled thickness rather than the milled thickness.  DARWin now correctly exports the milled thickness. In the Rigid Pavement Design module, the longitudinal steel % of the CRCP design now returns the correct value in both the metric and English calculations. Entry buttons were corrected to correspond to the required inputs in the PC Overlay of AC Pavement.  The button labeled "thickness of future traffic" is no longer displayed, but that functionality now occurs at a button for the k-value. The Load Transfer field button was disabled. Entry buttons for unbonded overlays were given the same changes as PC Overlays above. In addition, the backcalculation was exporting too many values. Now, only the k-value is exported. The change-in-temperature conversions were corrected  to use 5/9 * temp rather than the erroneous conversion that added or subtracted 32. The backcalculation of Dynatest V2.0 files has been corrected. In the backcalculation, the value of the lanes was previously displaying only the last entered value, and the drops were erroneously renumbered causing the test station to show continuous drops no matter how the lanes were tested. The program was changed to add the information as read by the program from the imported file or manual entry. When reading a Dynatest file in metric mode, temperature conversions  returned only the pavement mid-depth temperature.  The program now returns the pavement surface temperature and the air temperature, as well as the mid-depth temperature. The metric calculations were changed to correct the reading of all lines from an FWD file. It now eliminates unnecessary lines, just as the English mode does.
  • Reports previously printed in English units, even in metric mode, until the user visited the Print Select dialog box from the File menu. This has now been changed.  Reports will print in the default unit system unless changed by using the Print Select dialog box.

Changes Incorporated in Version 3.01.002

  • The new DARWin fixes a graph printing bug where, under Windows® NT, the x-axis labels were being printed 180 degrees the wrong direction. It was discovered that this behavior was the result of a difference between Windows 95 and Windows NT. DARWin now prints correctly under both operating systems.
  • A calculation bug was fixed in the rigid module's CRCP longitudinal steel design. The minimum percent steel for one of the methods was incorrect in both the metric and English calculation engines.
  • A calculation bug was fixed in backcalculation. Previously, DARWin used a maximum of 50 iterations to obtain the effective radius for determining the appropriate sensor to backcalculate by. Sometimes, however, more than 50 iterations are needed to find the value. Since the AASHTO guide suggests going to 100 iterations, DARWin now attempts 120 times. DARWin also locates the proper sensor more efficiently now.
  • The new DARWin fixes a potential crashing bug in backcalculation point-by-point drop data entry.
  • Point-by-point backcalculation data entry has been enhanced by allowing the data to be imported from a CSV file.
  • The print preview window had been incorrectly bounded within the frame of the current module. This behavior has been fixed, so that the print preview window now covers the entire DARWin application window.
  • A bug in which the DARWin library dialog box could not be closed if there were no items in the current level of the library has been fixed.
  • A roundoff bug was fixed in the flexible module's layered thickness design.

Changes Incorporated in Version 3.01.001

  • DARWin now provides a utility to plot FWD data and backcalculation results. DARWin 3.01 corrects a problem in 3.0 that resulted in DARWin plotting the data points at incorrect stations (x-locations).
  • The database drivers for the DARWin library have been upgraded. DARWin now includes ODBC Driver Manager version 3.5 and the Microsoft Jet ODBC driver version 3.5. The default format has been upgraded to Microsoft Access 97. These versions are compatible with Microsoft Office 97.
  • If ODBC was specified at setup and later the ODBC installation becomes damaged, DARWin attempts to correct the installation by recreating the proper registry keys before opening the DARWin library. This behavior can restore the default data source "DARWin Library" if DARWin is installed by the "Administrator" user on Windows NT but subsequently run under the name of another user.
  • The Microsoft Foundation Class Library, to which DARWin dynamically links at run time, has been upgraded to version 4.2.
  • The setup program no longer overwrites the DARWin library data source name in the registry if it already exists at the time of installation.
  • Celsius/Fahrenheit conversion has been corrected.
  • The read-only cells on the grid control for layered thickness design in the flexible module now keep track properly for the operations of new row, delete row, move up row, and move down row.
  • Using the component analysis method, the layer coefficient is no longer automatically imported for the existing pavement because the value is for a new pavement.
